Onward O-o-o-o-o Opray Winfrey #own

The new motto of “Live your Best Life,” is speaking for Oprah.  I’ve been expecting this for sometime now quite frankly. That Oprah Winfrey is leaving the talk show venue. She plans on exciting Sept 2011 media reports say. She has accomplished so much with her show that she probably is ready for a new challenge to dig her teeth into.

I say go for it.  Great move, quit  smart while you are ahead. I know that Oprah is not finished  she has more to give of  herself than we know.  I did notice that there was a sense of not being complete over the past few years with her and the show. Revamping, tweaking and brainstorming new ideas  etc . I can understand that this is what is expected of anything in life but there was a bit of a void there.  Perhaps she read, “The Dip” by Seth Godin knowing when to quit.

Oprah WinfreyIn a sense of being able to grow and expand in different ways and move on to something far more fulfilling and challenging for her. Besides a 50/50 split aint’ nothing to sneeze at with Discovery Communications you know the  Discovery Channel.  I am sure their ratings, stock and twitter followers for both Discovery communication venues will increase, LOL!

I have admired her tenacity  and trailblazing in this arena,  she has carved a target market all her own. Believe me her followers will go right with her.

Seth Godin

What a great and challenging match.  I love the Discovery Channel and I am sure that what she plans to do with her new cable channel company O.W.N (Oprah Winfrey Network) will be informative and entertainment television.  It seems that she will be slotted into the already running Discovery Health Channel this should prove to be interesting with a national obesity and health care reform issue on the slot. I just wonder if  President Obama, a-a-  no no way oh just wishful thinking, huh!

From the OWN website:

  • Launching in 2010
  • Debuting in more than 70 million homes on what is currently Discovery Health
  • Targeting adults 18-49
  • Programming will include a mix of nonfiction, short-form programming, movies, documentaries and acquisitions
  • OWN is a joint venture between Oprah Winfrey and Discovery Communications
  • OWN is headquartered in Los Angeles, CA

As a profession in her field,  I say she is not done yet don’t count her out. She is  just moving over a bit then again we never know now do we?

Congrats Oprah  I will be watching sometime.

Do you like roller coaster rides?

They are at it again Microsoft and Yahoo. I blogged on this story sometime ago and now they are at it again. Now that Yahoo stock is trading anywhere now between $21.00 – $22.19, it is stated that Yahoo stockholders wouldn’t goff at the $33 per share price Microsoft offered a few months ago.

Who knows where this ride is going to take us. It’s a timing game and who can wait out the longest, Yang, Microsoft or Yahoo shareholders. This is the first real boost Yahoo! has gotten since announcing less than two weeks ago that it had broken off discussions with Microsoft about selling its search business, an alternative to an outright takeover.

Try to figure this one out:
YAHOO

What I think……I’m going to go for another spin on the roller coaster and see if I can see the forest for the trees.

Microsoft backs off from Yahoo hostile takeover

After a turning battle of withdrawal Microsoft has backed off of the hostile takeover that they planned for Yahoo. Siting that it would not be in the best interest for them at this time. They had increased their bid for Yahoo to be $41.5 billion, or $37 per share. What seems to the be issue is that Yahoo executives wanted $38 per share in their last Wednesday’s meeting.

Microsoft being in the third seat of internet search engine companies wanted to chip away at the number one spot (Google). Competition is the essence of business. But Microsoft felt it wasn’t a good business move at this time to takeover Yahoo because Yahoo with their negotiations with Google in an alliance would cede too much power to Google in the lucrative search advertising market.

What I think….. One can only wait and see what is to come next over this year as to whether Microsoft will step up to the plate again and try their hand at bat. I personally hope that whatever the outcome Yahoo executives will use their heads in their decisions. If a merger is to be sanctioned by them goodness let it be with Google.

Microsoft vs Yahoo

Check out this video from February for some background information.

Loaded: Google versus Microsoft

What’s up with Microsoft and Yahoo!

Today again we face a major internet player trying to takeover Yahoo. This has been going on for quite some time now. Google and now Microsoft. CEO  Steve Ballmer, left, told employees in a company assembly Thursday (5-10-08)  that he knows how much he’d spend to buy Yahoo and accelerate his company’s Internet play. Meanwhile, Yahoo CEO Jerry Wang seemingly wants to take a less aggressive approach by keeping an open mind for other offers of merging with Google now for a more vast search engine platform.

This I know the big guys just keep getting bigger and for our purposes we should be aware of what is going on and how this will effect us and our internet searches. A question to ask yourself being that Microsoft has the monopoly on PC software, updates and what all do we want them to totally control the search engines too? They are going after Google it seems not just in healthy competition but hostile and aggressive. But yet they are willing to walk away if the price isn’t right. Now standing at a whopping $42.4 billion dollars. Can you say, “Yahoo-oooo!”

Assertive or Aggressive you be the judge

Grand Theft Auto 4, What gives?

Okay the only reason I am blogging about this one is that I was at the 12MID launch of this game out on XBOX 360 at Gamestop, for with my age appropriate teenager to get this game. The last time I stood in line for such a thing was when the Gameboy first came out . Brother the things parents will do for their kids.

I thought heck no one is going to be there. Please was that an understatement. It just amazes me that so many people are interested in these games I guess they don’t call it a million plus dollar industry for nothing, huh? I need to buy stock in these video game companies, honestly.

Well to boot we had to go back home because my age appropriate teenager forgot his receipt. Can you say anger, disgust, and very sleepy. Yes my teenager owes me big, lol! But I digress. After all this it seems from the explanation my teenager gave me about the wonders of this new game. The reviews are quite mixed and not as astounding as Rockstar thought it would be. Darn it I could of stayed in bed! LOL! My teenager told me that there is more territory to cover in the game, graphics are better, you can even travel on the subway, and so much more just check out the link and you can find out all about it.

Grand Theft Auto 4

My question still remains was it so important that mother had to be out at 12MID for it? I will get back with ya on that one. UGH!!! 🙂
