Overwhelmed???!!!

OVERWHELMED???!!!

As I sit here at the PC thought I would take time to ask are you overwhelmed? As I awoke this morning my brain was hurting from all the internet information that I have researched over the past months about internet marketing, promoting, product sourcing and you name it I have done it.

Forget the fact that my nickname from my friends and family is Ms. Information, watch it now careful how you say that, we all from time to time get overwhelmed.

With the MySpace, Facebook, Youtube, MyBlogLog, eBay, Amazon, Ecrater, Craiglist, MSN, Alexa, SEO, Yahoo, Google, Wagglepop, Ioffer, Jott, Twitter, stand-alone websites, subscribed newsletters, email, blogging, e-books, forums, membership sites, video, talk radio shows, Web 2.0 now web 3.0 (‘the intelligent Web’), my friend your friend and every bodies friend, it’s a wonder that there are still strangers in the world. PHEW!!!

I just sometimes have to stop and punt, relax and take the load off. Being a research and information geek, love the stuff, it was bound to happen sometime and more times than we would like to admit. I tell ya there are times when I just can’t take anymore! OMG! Information and technology just keep expanding and expanding. The more there is the more I have to know. Forget knowledge is power how about knowledge is addicting!

Yeah I know there are ways to reduce this overwhelming feeling but oblige me for a moment in my vent to say it is just sometimes to much!

The first part on the way to recovery is yes to admit it and then sit back and work through it the best you can.

Now isn’t this ironic that I am blogging about this and using the exact technology that is a part of my overwhelming feeling. Believe it or not there is some therapy here just being able to blog about it and get it out.

Well now that I have done that time to get back to the information and research seeking mode. I heard someone say, “If you ever feel overwhelmed just think you could be deceased.” Kind of morbid but there is some truth to that, huh?

Here’s to you my overwhelmed friend, now go and relax! 🙂

Cybery Bulling and update

I posted a blog on May 16th about a 13 year old girl that committed suicide due to a MySpace relationship she developed with a fraudulent MySpacer. Here is the update so far about it.

It seems that Lori Drew, 49, a neighbor of the deceased teen, has so far avoided state charges — but not federal ones.

Missouri police didn’t file any charges against Drew in part because there was no applicable state law. In response to the case, Missouri legislators gave final approval to a bill making cyber harassment illegal.

The charges were filed in California where MySpace is based.

Here’s my blog about it:

Here’s the update:

Cyber bullying Update

This case as unfortunate as it is maybe open to some challenges.

What I think…..Refer to my first blog post, that thought still stands.

“Stop Internet Cyber Bullying”

I blogged earlier about the safety measures that MySpace and Facebook are implementing on their sites. Today there has been breaking news of a story that is very sad to say the least.

A 13-year-old girl has committed suicide due to a perpetrating hoax of online harassment by another MySpace user. It seems that the culprit used MySpace as a joke posing as a young teenage male who met up with with this 13-year old girl.

Lori Drew of suburban St. Louis (an adult neighbor of Megan and her family) allegedly helped create a false-identity MySpace account to contact Megan Meier, who thought she was chatting with a 16-year-old boy named Josh Evans. Josh didn’t exist. Megan had a crush on Josh who was on medication and the bullying got exponentially out of hand.

Click video for updating story

Megan hanged herself at home in October 2006 after receiving cruel messages, that the world would be better off without her. After this event the account of the non-existent Josh Evans was deleted.

The non-existent Josh felt things were getting out of hand and decided to write and send cruel messages to Megan to get her mad so that she would delete him off her “friends” list.

Salvador Hernandez, assistant agent in charge of the Los Angeles FBI office, called the case heart-rending. The Internet is a world unto itself. People must know how far they can go before they must stop. They exploited a young girl’s weaknesses,” Hernandez said. “Whether the defendant (Lori Drew) could have foreseen the results, she’s responsible for her actions.”

The Los Angeles grand jury has just indited Lori Drew in 4 charges against her of this horrific situation. This clearly violates the TOS for MySpace by providing false information to obtain a MySpace account. This is one of the first cases of prosecution of Cyber Bullying.

What I think…….. More and more we know that bullying of any kind can lead to disastrous actions. We never know what can set a person off to devastating measures. My concern is of the adult in this situation. Why do this in the first place, and the second place if it was felt the situation was going to far, why wasn’t the account deleted before further bullying had been written? The mind of the adult here was not too sound to speak of to have the time to do this when there are so many activities in life that adults have to tend to. Why bully a teenage neighbor ? This is very sad very sad. This is not the first case but of Cyber bullying and it won’t be the last but one thing is for sure that maybe this case will allow for more of an outreach and awareness for all intended in the use of the internet and social sites.

Who is looking out for the faces and spaces of our kids ?!!

internet safety

Besides the prices of gasoline and food going up you just feel like you are being gouged everywhere. Especially when it comes to the essential items we need to survive like food, shelter, and water. I could go on for days about that one. But among those three basic essential items safety is getting another boost for the protection of kids on Facebook and MySpace. I for one am pleased being a child advocate this is something that is always a concern for me just how safe are the things we do in society and how that can effect the safety or our children. Well Facebook and MySpace have stepped up to the plate. Despite what the internet gossip is they have decided to do something about it.

Among other changes, Facebook has agreed to:

– Ensure companies offering services on its site comply with its safety and privacy guidelines.

– Keep tobacco and alcohol ads from users too young to purchase those products.

– Remove groups whose comments or images suggest they may involve incest, pedophilia, bullying or other inappropriate content.

– Send warning messages when a child is in danger of giving personal information to an adult.

– Review users’ profiles when they ask to change their age, ensuring the update is legitimate and not intended to let adults masquerade as children.

The protections included in the MySpace and Facebook pacts could be expanded to smaller services such as Friendster and Bebo, Blumenthal said.

“We’re entering a new era in social networking safety,” Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said. “This agreement is open-ended in envisioning advances in technology that will permit even stronger steps in the future toward protecting kids’ safety.”

Don’t stop here guys keep goin’ is all I say!

Teens and their cell phones

Okay look out this is not the only place this is happening but in Columbus, OH teens are sending nude photos of themselves or in compromising positions to each other. Now if this isn’t bad enough these pictures are being spread all over facebook, myspace, emailed to anyone who will take a look see.

I was watching for a minute the Tyra show the other day and saw teens on talking about kids in some high schools having sex in the bathrooms, classrooms with the teacher being asleep, stairwells. Besides the drugs, gambling, and killings at high schools now we have nude pictures being sent everywhere possible.

To top it off a raping, I read about was on this past Friday at a Cleveland High School. All I can say is be aware and alert to these things as much as you can for your children or children in your family. If you have a teen or know a teen talk to em they need us too.

They may play like the don’t and say, “Whatever, yeah right” but they are glad and are asking for us as adults to listen up and help. Speaking as a parent I just had to say this.

Looking out for kids check out this video below.

Question of the day?

Have you hugged you kid today, if applicable?
